About this book
Written in January 2026, this ebook is my personal reflection on one year of selling handmade products at craft markets across different cities, conditions, and audiences.
It documents the lessons I learned: from choosing markets and pricing products, to scaling inventory, managing expectations, and dealing with emotional exposure.
Instead of offering formulas or promises, this book focuses on patterns, trade-offs, and lessons that only become visible over time, as well as experiences that can be reflected on and, in part, replicated.
Markets are noisy, unpredictable, and often unfair in the short run. This book attempts to make sense of that reality.
Along with the ebook, I also include a free Excel template that I personally use to document sales and track data over time, helping me reflect on performance and gradually improve my results.
This book is for you if you:
- are selling (or planning to sell) at craft, design, or maker markets
- have experienced inconsistent sales and self-doubt
- want to understand the risk–return trade-off behind market selling
- are tired of overly optimistic “success stories”
- value real observations over simplified advice
Especially written for independent makers, artists, and small creative businesses.
About the author (me)
I am a small business owner, a maker, and a PhD student in Finance.
I launched my handmade brand in April 2025. Over the following eight months, I participated in 60 market days, navigating 21 different markets across the Netherlands.
My journey began with a “zero-sale” day and gradually evolved into consistently achieving over €800 in a single day during the peak Christmas season.
